Dr. Jacques Y. Deliere

Dr. Jacques Yves Delière, 90, of Terre Haute passed away at Union Hospital on Friday, February 24, 2023. He was born November 23, 1932 in Saint- Péray, Ardèche in France to Firmin Delière and Margurite Delière. Jacques came to the United States in 1964 to promote a French teaching method of language. He was offered a professor opportunity with Indiana State University and retired after 35 years of service. His students brought him so much joy. He received his doctorate from the Sorbonne in Paris, France in 1976. In 1990, he received the Palmes Académiques for services rendered to the Ministry of National Education in France. Jacques was in the French Army and was posted in Algeria during the Algerian War. He and his wife, Carole, enjoyed travelling to their home countries of England and France. They are members of the Church of the Immaculate Conception. In his younger years he was a skilled guitar player. Jacques also enjoyed hiking in the French Alps and boating. He would walk for exercise each day for nearly an hour up until his passing.
Jacques is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Carole Delière, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, as well as close friends and colleagues Angelo Disalvo and Cherrie Soper. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Marcel Delière and Jean Delière, and sister Marie Madeline Gros.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at St. Mary's Church of the Immaculate Conception beginning at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be at the church from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donation can be made in honor of Jacques to the Sisters of Providence.
