Mr. James Michael Allred, age 70, of Sanford, NC transitioned to eternal rest on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at SECU Jim and Betsy Bryan Hospice in Pittsboro, NC.
"The righteous perishes while no man understands, and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous are taken away from the evil to come.
He shall enter into peace... walking in his uprightness." (Isaiah 57:1,2)
Born September 19, 1953, to the late Drucilla Downey Allred and James M. Allred, James Michael "Mike" Allred, went quietly to rest June 11, 2024, at the UNC Hospice House, Pittsboro, NC. His ascending could be described as one who had a real glimpse of heaven because of the beautiful, peaceful smile he portrayed a couple of days before his departure.
Mike graduated from Rockingham High. After his completion of high school, he entered the United States Army where he held firm to his oath earning an honorable discharge. He furthered his education by getting his real estate broker license and he opened his own business, Prosperity Realty. He was currently employed at Hunt Electric Supply company, Sanford, NC. He worked there for 38 years and hardly missed any days until his illness prohibited him.
In 1995, he married his loving wife, Cindy, of almost 30 years. They raised their two sons in Sanford, NC, where he and Cindy remained until his passing.
After joining Works for Christ Christian Center, he worked diligently under the leadership of Drs. Lewis and Alice Hooker. He was the sound technician, member of the drama team and male chorus, and assisted with the Youth Department. He worked faithfully with his hands. In Dr. Lewis' words, "If I could say anything about Mike, he had the heart of Works for Christ. He was the one who built the fellowship hall. He took the pastors' vision and dream and turned it into a reality." His dedication to the Lord was evident in serving his family, church, and friends with genuine love and kindness.
If you asked about his life, one would say it was that of service. He loved helping and giving to those in need. But one of his most favorite and treasured life-time services was his commitment since 1992 to the Brick City Elks Lodge No. 688 where he was currently the Exalted Ruler. There was not a single day or night that you would not find him there arranging meetings, working with staff, and making sure things were running smoothly and effectively for each occasion. In addition, Mike held various positions including Treasurer and Trustee; Chief Antler of Baxter Council 127; Colonel in NC BDE Antler Guard Bull City Marching Unit. He was a NCSA Trustee, and a member of the Civil Liberty Department. He held degrees in Past State President and Past Grand Exalted Ruler. He was a member of the Beauty and Talent Department and the Youth Department. He was also named "Bingo President" at the lodge.
When his children were in school, Mike was President of the PTO at J. Glenn Edwards Elementary school and President of the Band Boosters at Lee Senior High, Sanford, NC.
Mike loved joking and clowning with people. He had an odd sense of humor, but those who knew him understood that all he wanted was to make people laugh and enjoy life and make every day count.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father and sister, Wanda.
His memories will be cherished by all, but particularly by his surviving wife, Cindy; his two sons: Lennie (Devan) and Jay; his siblings, Priscilla A. Woods (Robert) of Pinetop, NC; Joan Allred of Sanford; Jane Drucilla Donaldson (Willie) of Sanford, NC; Karen D. McAllister (Herbert) of Raeford, NC; Andrea Allred of Charlotte, NC; Marshall V. Allred of Rockingham, NC and Darrell B. Allred (Rosa) of Greensboro, NC; three uncles, Mike, Alfonzo, and Jack Wall; two aunts, Drissie Wall of Wilmington, Delaware and Bessie Travis of Rockingham, NC, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
