James T. Barnicle, 73, of Richland Center, died suddenly on Saturday, March 4, 2023.
James, better known as Jim, was born on October 24, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois, to Thomas and LaVerne (Kaub) Barnicle. After graduating from St. Mel's Catholic High School in 1967 he joined the Army and served two tours in Vietnam. He left the military as a decorated Green Beret. After his time in the service, he held various accounting and executive management positions in Illinois and Wisconsin.
In 1984 Jim married Judith (Judy) Bence in Flossmoor, Illinois. They combined their two families and raised five children together. They enjoyed family vacations every year, taking the kids on road trips throughout the Midwest. In 1992 they left the suburbs for a slower pace of life in Wisconsin. They purchased a small farmette in Henrietta Township, where Jim got to have the horse farm he had always wanted. Once their beloved horses Funny and Beau died, and all the kids were out of the house, Jim and Judy moved to Richland Center, where they have lived since 2001. Jim was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and enjoyed attending various church activities. He was also a member of the Parish Council and Education Committee. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, going on family vacations to the north woods, watching the Packers and the Bucks, spending time at the gun range, and visiting with friends at The Richland Family Restaurant.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years Judy; 5 children: Jim (Joanna) Barnicle, Shawn (Nena) Barnicle, Shannon (Rob) Cascarano, Mandy (Dean) Pyfferoen, and Mindy (Scott) Carter; 10 grandchildren: Johnathan, Mason, and Silvia Barnicle; Mila Barnicle; Katherine and Micael Such; Avery and Annika Pyfferoen; and Riley and Braedan Johnson; 3 step grandchildren: Jacob and Gage Carter and Isiah Flores; two brothers: Thomas (Theresa) Barnicle and Dan (Terry) Barnicle; brother-in-law Larry (Ha) Bence; nieces; nephews; other relatives; friends; and the last two dogs of his life, Cleo and Bailey.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and LaVerne Barnicle; his infant brother Jerold Barnicle; his in-laws William and Shirley Bence; aunts; uncles; cousins; relatives; friends; and many beloved family pets.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at 11:00 AM at the Pratt Memorial Chapel. Private family burial will be held in the St. Patrick's Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 13, 2023 at the Pratt Memorial Chapel from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM and again on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at 11:00 AM.
