James "Jim" M. Bartholomew, 74, passed away at his home in Winsted, Connecticut, on Sunday, September 8, 2024. Born on October 12, 1949 in Waterbury, he was the son of the late James and Gertrude (Marhoun) Bartholomew.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Jim served his country in Vietnam as a member of the First Battalion, 503rd Airborne Infantry. He was awarded the Bronze Star for outstanding meritorious service. Jim was retired from Sterling Engineering and Sky Top Lanes where he worked as a maintenance mechanic. He was kind, creative, and skilled in working with his hands.
Jim was an avid collector and enjoyed finding treasures and antiques of all types. He especially loved working on cars and motorcycles. He was the proud owner of a vintage Amphicar, which he loved to drive on and around Highland Lake with his family. Jim was fond of animals and enjoyed fishing, music, drawing, and watching movies. He was also a loyal Red Sox fan.
Jim is survived by his beloved daughters, Dawn (Stephen) Woodin of Torrington and Michelle Kehaya of Clermont, Florida; grandchildren, Conor Bartholomew of Winsted, Kyle Bernier of Torrington, and Elise Kehaya, Lily Kehaya, and Alexis Kehaya, all of Clermont, Florida; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Isabell, and Scarlett; brothers, Francis Bartholomew of Danbury and Robert Bartholomew of Torrington, and brothers-in-law, Joseph Godenzi and Aldo Godenzi of Colebrook. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Ryan Bartholomew, son-in-law, David Kehaya, and longtime companion, Mildred "Bo" Narducci. Jim was beloved by many and will be dearly missed and remembered by his family and friends.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024 with military honors at Forest View Cemetery in Winsted at 11 AM. Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 922 Main Street, Winsted has care of the arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.montano-shea.com.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation at www.garysinisefoundation.org.
