CYNTHIANA, INDIANA
James Raymond Bender, 93, of Cynthiana, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, in the comfort of his home.
He was the ninth child of Henry V. Bender and Cecelia H. (Angermeier) Bender, born on January 20, 1932, in Poseyville, Indiana.
James was a lifelong farmer who fought for and loved his country. He was a parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church his entire life and loved God, his family, and they loved him.
After graduating from Owensville High School, James served 2 years in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He married Anita Rosalind Beuligmann on January 19, 1957.
Surviving are sons: Mark Bender (Jennifer) and Nicholas Bender (Laura); daughters: Cynthia Bender, MD (Mike Fritz), Diana Shepherd (Rodney), Donna Rumps (Ken), Paula Schaefer (Terry) and Elise Bender (Matt Sepic); daughter-in-law: Shawn Bender; 24 grandchildren to whom he was lovingly known as "Poppy": Grace Welch (John), Cecelia Bender Gaillardetz, MD (Brian), Clare Dale (Ethan), Gabriel Bender (Adeleen), Mary Bender, Jude Bender, Olivia Fritz, Samuel Fritz, Nathan Shepherd, Sophia Carmichael (Travis), Madeleine Rumps, Teresa Rumps, Karl Rumps, Megan Myers (Tyler), Michael Bender, Brooke Kiifner (Luke), David Bender (Emily), Abraham Schaefer, Isabel Schaefer, Nicole Bender, Ryan Bender, Eva Bender, Elizabeth Sepic, and Andrew Sepic; 8 great-grandchildren: Sebastian Welch, Evelyn Bender, Callum and Josie Carmichael, Lily and Annabelle Myers, Henry and August Kiifner along with one on the way.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his cherished wife of 68 years, Rosalind; his eldest son, Patrick J. Bender; his brothers: Benjamin V. Bender, Ivan N. Bender, B. Joseph Bender, Frederick L. Bender, and Harold C. Bender, along with sisters: Mary E. Davis, Carolyn R. Blankenberger, and Virginia L. Beuligmann.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m., Monday, November 10 2022, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Poseyville, Indiana with burial to follow in church cemetery near Poseyville, Indiana.
Visitation will be 3-6 p.m., Sunday, November 9, 2025 at the church.
