James Paul Bender, age 61, of Valencia, passed away on Friday afternoon, January 16, 2026 after unknowingly developing a duodenal ulcer. He fiercely fought a month-long ICU stay until ultimately his God called him home to live eternally without pain and suffering. He died peacefully surrounded by those he loved and who loved him deeply.
Jim is survived by his wife Tammy, a 32 year marriage overflowing with happiness, love and devotion. His father and mother-in-law, Ken and Debbe Vail, brothers-in-law, Kenny Vail (Shawn), Jimmy Vail (Cindy) and Mike Fazzolare (Tyona), his grandfather-in-law, Ken "Pap" Vail, who "Mr. Jim" loved and cared for very much. The term in-law was non existent. Jim was their son, grandson, brother and nephew, who believed his presence in their life was a gift. His brother, John Bender, sister Judi Tobin and many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly also survive.
Jim's camp family who always treated him with kindness and cared for his well-being. He cherished every cookout and campfire. Jim's friends and co-workers from numerous engineering firms where he was a career Senior Electrical Designer, and life long friends from the Shaler area where he graduated in 1982. Most importantly, Renee and Pete Vandenberghe, who are more than friends. Their unconditional support in all aspects of life made Jim so grateful.
Jim was preceded in death by his father and mother, John and Nancy Bender and his brother, Larry (Lynn) Bender, who he profoundly missed since the day of his passing. They are undoubtedly already fishing or rebuilding and old Jeep in Heaven.
The family is choosing a private memorial service. If compelled, please forward words of gratitude to the MICU Nursing Staff of North Hills Passavant Hospital in Jim's honor. Their gentle and kind care of Jim and his family made this past month's challenges feel as comfortable as possible.
Jim was a generous soul, aspired for peace and harmony and treasured the simple things in life. There will be an emptiness in the hearts of those that loved him. Forever and Always.
