James A. Bopp, a lifelong Beacon resident, passed away on Saturday July 6, 2024 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, after a brief battle with cancer.
Jim was born on March 15, 1948 in Beacon, NY, son of the late Henry and Gladys (Stecher) Bopp.
After graduating Beacon High School in 1966, he served in the United States Airforce where he was a bugler with the Airforce Drum and Bugle Corps. Although he worked various jobs over the years, he was mostly known for his welding and leather work.
Jim Bopp had a fierce passion for all things nature. Hiking, bike riding, fishing and his beloved Mt. Beacon. He was a Beaconite through and through!
Jim is survived by his daughter, Tanya Volkmann and her husband John of Hopewell Jct., NY; his son Jason Bopp and Dawn Mahoney of Cortlandt Manor; his granddaughter Ava Volkmann and his step-grandson Jake Mahoney. His sister Barbara Jung of Newburgh, his brother Wayne Bopp of Beacon, beloved nieces and their children, many cousins and so many lifelong friends.
Along with his parents, Jim was predeceased by his sister-in-law Gina and her son Justin and his children's mother, Karen Samuels.
His peaceful nature and his familiar face will be missed by many - new friends and old.
His Family & Friends will gather to remember His Life on Monday, July 15 from 5-8PM at the LIBBY FUNERAL HOME, 55 Teller Avenue, Beacon, New York.
