James "Jim" Malcolm Boswell, Jr. passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, July 17, 2025 at the age of 92. He was at home with his loving wife and surrounded by family.

Jim was known for his keen mind, affable nature, and willingness to help family and friends with projects big and small. He was raised in Williamsburg, KY by parents who were educators with longstanding ties to Cumberland College (now University of the Cumberlands). An accomplished all-around athlete in high school, he enrolled in the University of Louisville and promptly joined the track team. Even as his knees gave out in later life, he kept up with his vigorous neighborhood walks to stay in tip-top shape.

After graduating from University of Louisville Speed School, he married his sweetheart, Sara Jane McGrath, and spent three years in the Marine Corps as a commissioned officer. They eventually settled down in Louisville to raise five children while Jim dedicated himself to many innovative projects at General Electric (GE) Appliance Park. In later years, he traveled internationally to establish GE factory operations, spending significant time in Mexico toward the end of his career. Sara even learned to navigate international travel to spend time with him there. She loves to share sweet stories about the exotic jewelry Jim would bring home for her from his various travels abroad. After retirement, they took up part-time residency in Hilton Head, SC, where they indulged in their love of playing golf together. His greatest happiness came from making Sara happy.

Jim is survived by his wife, Sara; sister, Louise Tipton; daughters, Kathryn Knotts (John), Lisa Boswell, and Beth Lauderdale (Steve); son, David (Monica); and seven grandchildren, (Benjamin, David, and Joshua Boswell; Jordan, Aaron, Jacob, and Hallie Knotts). He was preceded in death by son Mark.

The family will hold a funeral Mass limited to family members.

In lieu of flowers or other acknowledgements, family and friends can make donations to St. Albert the Great Catholic Church in Louisville, Kentucky.
