James "Jim" Bragg age 75, of Canal Winchester passed away Friday, July 23, 2021. Jim was born on August 11, 1945 in Harrington, Kansas, to James and Madelyn (Morton) Bragg. As his father was in the Air Force, the family moved many times during Jim's childhood. Upon graduation from high school, Jim was drafted into the United States Air Force where he served his country during the Vietnam Conflict. He worked as an outside salesman and brake specialist for Fyda Freightliner for 27 years and was highly liked and respected by his customers and coworkers.
Jim's mission in life was to serve his Lord and community in any way possible. He was a member of Gender Road Christian Church where he served in several capacities through the years such as elder, coordinator of the homeless outreach, kitchen volunteer, and prayer warrior. On Sunday mornings Jim was typically found in the church kitchen with a dish towel slung over one shoulder preparing food and drinks for fellowship hour. He was a founding member of the Canal Winchester Path to Peace Al-Anon group. He greatly enjoyed welcoming new members to the group and served as facilitator and sponsored many new members over the years.
Jim was an accomplished marksman, having competed at the local, state, and national levels through the years. In addition to competing he instructed and mentored everyone he met who was new to the sport. He volunteered untold hours working at Rayner's Range helping with improvements and upkeep of the range. His Cherokee heritage was very important to him, a fact that was obvious in his home décor and in the way he lived his life. He loved the outdoors, gardening and rescuing dogs. Jim's family meant the world to him and he spent as much time with them as possible.
Jim is survived by his wife, Sheryl Bragg; daughter Wendy Morton; step-sons, Tyler Reeve and Aaron Reeve; grandchildren, Liz Morton and Nathan Morton; great-granddaughter Sadie Carver; and many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Madelyn Bragg.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, July 31, from 10 am - noon at Gender Road Christian Church, 5336 Gender Road, Canal Winchester, Ohio, followed by the celebration of Jim's life in the church sanctuary at noon. All who would like to stay and share stories and fellowship are invited to a lunch in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service. Pastors John Romig, Margot Connor, and Kerry Reed will officiate the celebration. Those who are unable to attend are invited to watch the livestream of the service on the Gender Road Christian Church website.
