BUTCHER, James "Jim". March 2, 2025. Age 87. Beloved father of Jennifer (Greg) Hellebuyck and Chris Butcher. Adored grandfather of Josh, Jesse, and Michael. Cherished special friend of Sandy D'Angelo. He was predeceased by his ex-wife, Kendra, and sister, Sheila White.
Jim was a proud graduate of Richmond High School, Michigan State University, and Wayne State University. He honorably served in the United States Army, and after a distinguished career, retired from General Motors where he worked for 39 years as a Staff Project Supervisor.
Throughout his life, Jim was actively involved in various community service initiatives, including Junior Achievement, Meals on Wheels, and Big Brothers. He had a passion for fishing, particularly in northern Ontario at Ogoki Lake, and enjoyed playing pickup hockey with local teams, as well as participating in the annual Snoopy tournament at Charles Schultz Ice Rink in Santa Rosa, California. He was also an avid golfer, and a member of Burning Tree golf course for many years.
A true adventurer at heart, Jim loved to travel, exploring destinations in Africa, Europe, China, and South America. Notably, he visited Machu Picchu and the Galápagos Islands in 2016. He was also a founding member of the Shelby Township Association, which worked to enhance the community by planting trees in local sites.
Visitation Wednesday, March 12th, from 4-8pm with 7pm Military Honors at Wujek - Calcaterra & Sons Inc, (Shelby Township), 54880 Van Dyke at 25 Mile Rd. Memorial contributions are appreciated to Meals on wheels. Burial Thursday, March 13th, 11am at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd., Holly, 48442. I have known Jim for probably twenty years or so, spending numerous holidays together as well as several vacations. He has always been very generous with his time and his wallet and has been very helpful to our family over the years. He will be missed.
