James S. Cafiero Sr., father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on August 27, 2024, at the age of 67 in Hazlet. Born on October 6, 1956, in Jersey City to Salvatore and Marie (Luzzi) Cafiero. He was raised in Jersey City, before moving and becoming a life-long resident of the Bay Shore area.
Jim worked diligently as a bridge operator for the State of New Jersey. His career was to ensure the safety and reliability of the state's infrastructure. His work ethic and dedication to his role were evident to all who knew him.
Jim was a man of diverse interests and hobbies. He was an avid collector of swords, knives, dragons, and mystical things. His love extended to the silver screen, as he was a big-time movie buff with a particular passion for Sci-Fi and Classic Horror films. Additionally, James had an appreciation for classic cars.
Jim's love for his family was paramount, and he was the cornerstone of many cherished family memories. He was predeceased by his beloved wives, Dorene Cafiero in 2007 and Christine Cafiero in 2018, as well as his brother, Lou Miller and his sister, Antoinette B. Rezabala. His legacy continues through his parents, Salvatore and Marie Cafiero; his sons, James (Susan) Cafiero Jr. of Florida, Salvatore Cafiero, Danny Cafiero, Dave (Darlene) Dwyer of New York, and Sean Geary of North Carolina; his daughters, Jennifer (Calvin) Smith of Hazlet, Brittany (Jerry) Dishmon of Georgia, and Christine Cafiero of Florida; a step daughter Dawn Newton; his brother, Roy (Donna) Didgeon Sr. of Pennsylvania; his sister, Patricia Baldwin; 13 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild. Each of these individuals was a source of immense pride and joy for Jim, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Family gatherings were never dull with Jim around, as his humor, stories, and laughter were the highlights of every occasion.
Jim's impact extended beyond his immediate family as he formed lasting friendships and will be fondly remembered by all.
A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Jim will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Tuesday, September 3rd, from 4-8pm at the Jacqueline M. Ryan Home for Funerals 233 Carr Ave. Keansburg. On Wednesday, September 4th, family and friends will gather at the funeral home at 10:00am for a service, before we head to Fairview Cemetery in Middletown
