On Saturday, April 9, 1932, in the quaint town of Delray, Florida, native Bahamians, Theresa Rolle Clark Cleckley and Livingston Clark, gave birth to James Elliott Clark.
James, from his inception, radiated a humble and modest presence. This personality, over the years, was his badge of honor; in which nearly everyone who interacted with him, would come to absolutely love about him. He received his early education in the Palm Beach County School District.
Growing up with the uncompromising values of family and work, James worked tirelessly in the landscaping and roofing industries. In 1951, he married his lifelong partner and soulmate, Ernestine Oliver Clark, in which they upheld their sacred Union for 72 Years. In 1958, James relocated his family to Port Salerno, Florida, where he raised all his children, and made the beloved New Monrovia Community his permanent residence.
On Thursday, November 30, 2023, at 10:15am, in the comfort of his home, at the golden age of 91 years old, James transitioned from earth to glory. He was preceded in death by his parents, Theresa Rolle Clark Cleckley and Livingston Clark; his surrogate father, Willie Lee Cleckley; 2 sons, Edward W. Clark and James E. Clark, Jr.; siblings, Alsada Belvin, William Edward Clark, and Edith Quinn; in-laws, Mose Oliver, Jr., Daisey Longley, Lillie Pearl Cole, Carrie Wright, Willie Mae Oliver-Gray, Roy Houston, Willie Oliver, Rommie Oliver, and Katie Mae Wallace.
Left to cherish his legacy of love is his devoted wife, Ernestine Oliver Clark; his children, Pastor Sylvia Clark Taylor and James W. Clark (Renee); his grandchildren, Victor Clark, Keneshia Clark, Kiandra Clark (Jason), Edward Clark (Denise), Angelica Clark, Jazmine Clark, Jayme Clark, Janell Clark, and Ricardo Weaver, Jr.; 5 great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Clark; in-laws, James Oliver, Abraham Oliver (Pat), Geneva Houston, Barbara Stringer, Apostle Abbie Knight (Keith), and Joe Louis Oliver; children-of-the-heart, Thaddeus Clark, Rev. Melva Wilson (Min. Alex), and Albert Oliver, Jr.; and god-children, Doris Newkirk, Willie Paul Newkirk, and Lenora Newkirk-Leonard.
