Deacon James Charles Collier, Sr., was born on January 10, 1953, to the late Willie Floyd "Son" Collier and the late Mattie Lou Collier in
Meansville, Georgia. J.C. as he was affectionately called by family and friends received his formal education at Pike County Consolidated High School in
Concord, Georgia. He furthered his education at Griffin Technical College in
Griffin, Georgia.
Deacon James Charles Collier, Sr., accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age at Pure Holiness Church of God in
Concord, Georgia, later becoming Joyful Tabernacle of Praise, where he served as a Deacon for 30 years. He was very dedicated to taking care of the upkeep of the church that he loved dearly.
Mr. James Charles Collier, Sr., was united in holy matrimony with Ms. Bessie L. Parker on April 2, 1973. Their union was blessed with 5 beautiful children. These five children were his pride and joy. He was employed by Holden, Snapper, Ranews, and Knapheide Trucking as a Welder for over 40 years.
In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, gardening, working on cars, playing his guitar, grilling, and the thing he loved the most was spending time with his family and friends. J. C. was a true man of God, he never met a stranger, and he would help any and every one that was in need.
On Monday, May 27, 2024, Chairman Deacon James Charles Collier, Sr., entered the Heavenly Gates knowing there will be no more sickness, pain, or suffering, only everlasting joy with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Floyd "SON" and Mattie Lou Collier; his siblings, Mattie Laura Shannon, Leon Shannon, Jr., Ernest Shannon, Willie Roger Shannon, Emmitt Shannon, Walter Preston "Billy" Shannon, Arlean Neal, Willie Roger Collier, Bennie Floyd Collier; maternal grandparents, Ben Emmett and Mattie Neal;
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024, from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM at Burden's Funeral Home. A Home Going Celebration will be held on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at 2:30 PM at Joyful Tabernacle of Praise located 8 Church Street in Concord. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service hour. Inter,ent will follow in Moody's Memorial Gardens. Pastor R. Marquis Belcher is the Eulogist.
Chairman, Deacon James Charles Collier, Sr., leaves a lasting legacy, full of loving memories his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Mrs. Bessie L. Parker-Collier; their children, Angela (Elgin) Collier, Okesha (Greg) Wellmaker, James Charles (Kearston) Collier, Jr., Denotra Latrese Collier, and Desmond Collier; his siblings, Lucille Collier, Lewis (Shirley) Shannon, Delouise Collier, and Louella (Willie) Elder; 17 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; in-laws, Louise Shannon, Carolyn Shannon, Barbara Jean Collier, Bishop Riley (Bessie) Parker, Gladene (Carlis) Person, Lucy Gocher, Shirley Baldwin, Carlene Parker-Oliver, Dock (Bessie) Parker, and Sarah Johnson. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that will miss him dearly.
