James Lee "Jim" Combs, Sr, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2023, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born on December 31, 1944, in Anawalt, WV. A son of the late Wesley Braxton Combs and Ivory Montgomery. In addition to his parents Jim was preceded in death by two infant sons, Wesley, and James Combs: brother, Wesley "Jr" Combs and two sisters, Shelby Hall and Janice Dusenburry.
Jim was a retired electrician with Jarrett Electric. He served his county in the United States Navy. He loved his family and spending time with them. He also enjoyed working on his land while farming and working with his animals. He was very much loved and will be missed in the days to come.
Jim is survived by his wife, Bertie G. Combs; seven children, Dolores "Dolly" Smith, James Combs, Jr. and his girlfriend, Debra, Ivory Martin and her husband, James, John Wesley "Johnny" Combs, Crystal Pendleton and her husband, Maurice, Jeanie Stanley and her husband, Eddie, and Tracy Harris. Fourteen grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; one brother, Bobby Combs and his uncle, Dorsey Montgomery and his wife, Reba.
A funeral service and celebration of Jim's life will be conducted at 1pm on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at Tharp Funeral Chapel with Rev. Mike Huffman officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service also at Tharp Funeral Chapel in Bedford. To send condolences online please visit tharpfuneralhome.com. Bertie, Crystal and family: We are so sorry for the loss of such a sweet man. He was always so kind to us. He always had a smile on his face no matter where we'd see him. He will be missed by many. You all are in our thoughts and prayers.
