James Walker Counts age 65 of Macomb Township, Michigan, formerly of Warren, Michigan passed away suddenly on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at Henry Ford Warren Hospital in Warren, Michigan.
James was born in Royal Oak, Michigan on November 30, 1959. He was the son of Darret and Alice Counts. He graduated from Berkley High School in 1977. James and Ann married at Our Lady of LaSalette Catholic Church in Berkley on June 11, 1982. Jim retired from Makino SST in March of 2025.
James was a great lover of the outdoors. Between his love of fishing, camping with family in the RV to collecting fossils or shark teeth down on the Gulf, the outdoors meant a great deal to him. He was known to be the one who always caught the largest fish. A pastime favorite of his was a quiet night of immersing himself in action movies ranging from Clint Eastwood Western movies to Bruce Lee Kungfu movies, and those in between like the Marvel universe or Resident Evil. He had a new found love for getting tattoos. He appreciated the art and the message he could portray with them. Amongst the collection of fossils and tattoos, he found solace in collecting new guns, along with a collection of smiles from all those he touched.
James was a genuine man who would help anyone in need. His selfless attitude towards his family created a dependable man who always gave what and anything he could to help better their lives. Family always came first for him over everything else. He was a true giver who always held back to receive. His charismatic personality and deep laughter always brightened the day. His imprint on the people he met will be felt for an eternity. After becoming a grandfather, nothing brought him more joy than holding and playing with his grandchildren. In every visit he would make sure his attention went directly to them. He always made each moment with them count. He always had a spare moment for them no matter the circumstances. He was known to make the best chocolate pies from an old family recipe. He loved greatly with open arms and was loved greatly by everyone who knew him. He will be tremendously missed.
James is survived by his ex-wife Ann Counts, Children: Matthew Walker (Julianna), Shawn Patrick (Katirina), James Andrew, and Michael Darret. Grandchildren: Freya, Finnegan, Theodore, and Isla. Siblings: Sandra Schwarze (Robert) and Lisa Syck (Jessie).
Visitation at the Sawyer-Fuller Funeral Home 2125 Twelve Mile Road in Berkley, (two blocks west of Woodward Avenue), Tuesday, May 20th, from 2 pm to 8 pm. Funeral 10 am Wednesday, May 21st at Sawyer-Fuller Funeral Home. James will then be cremated according to his wishes.
