James E Devone 61 of 1102 Raleigh Road Clinton passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2025 at his home. James was born March 19, 1964 in Sampson County to the late Lena M. Whitley and David DeVone.

Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 27, 2025 at Littlefield Missionary Baptist Church, 4465 Newton Grove Hwy., Newton Grove, NC 28366. Pastor Dr. Claudie T. Morrisey, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

A walk-thru viewing will be held 12:00-5:00 pm,, on Friday, December 26, 2025 at Hope Valley Hawkins Funeral Chapel, 1246 Hobbton Hwy., Clinton, NC. There will also be a visitation the hour prior to the service, 10:00-11:00 am, on Saturday, December 27, 2025, within the church sanctuary.

He developed a love for basketball and football at an early age. He attended Hobbton High School and graduated an honor student. He was well known in the community for his smile, gentle spirit, and outgoing personality. He loved sports and attended all football and basketball games he could. He also loved his family, friends, and community.

James was a devoted member of Littlefield Missionary Baptist Church. He was active in his church, supported local recreations, and was always eager to fellowship-especially through food and laughter. James served as a faithful usher and choir member. He worked as a truckdriver for Interstate Distributors of Dunn, NC for many years.

James was preceded in death by his first grandson, Harverd Johnson.

James leaves to cherish his memory, wife: Gloria Williams of Clinton, NC; his children: LaGrace Johnson of Clayton, NC and James Shaquille DeVone of Atlanta, GA; his mother: Margaret Crumpler; sisters: Kathleen Crumpler Jones (Herbert), Misty Crumpler Peacock (Al), Mary Lott DeVone, and Lizzie DeVone; brothers: Lewis DeVone, Ronnie Devone and David DeVone; three grandsons and one granddaughter; as well as a host of great nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
