He was born on June 24, 1961, in Michigan City, to Raymond and Lois (Sydow) Dobkins.
James loved fishing, boxing and roller skating. He was a black belt and loved to work out. Along with his brother, Tim Dobkins and partner, John Stimley, they ran the St. Michaels Youth Center in Michigan City. Most of all James loved spending time with his fiancé, Jackie Beckette. He was greatly loved by all who knew him and will be truly missed.
Surviving is his fiancé, Jackie Beckette; brothers, Raymond (Jamie) Dobkins, David (Patti) Dobkins and Timothy (Lori) Dobkins; sister, Donna (Wade) Cornell and Diane Waire; and his beloved dog, Carmella.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carol Reed; brother-in-law, Darrell Waire.
A funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, 247 W. Johnson Rd., La Porte, (219) 362-3100, with Pastor Joseph Watterson officiating. Visitation and viewing will be held from 5:00 p.m. until time of the service. Burial will take place on Monday, July 7, 2025 at Pine Lake Cemetery in La Porte.
