James Lee (Jim) Dorrell, age 92, was born in Marceline, Missouri on September 4, 1932 to Alonzo and Daisy Bell (Strain) Dorrell and went to be with his Lord on March 19, 2025 at his home in Aurora, CO surrounded by his family.
James grew up in Marceline, MO and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He joined the Air Force in 1951 and retired from active service in 1972 as a Tech Sergeant. James was stationed in many places during his military service including South Dakota, Missouri, Kansas, California, and the Philippines. He and his family eventually settled in Aurora, Colorado when James retired in 1972.
He met and married Theresa Marie Lombardo, while stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, South Dakota. They married on October 16, 1955. This union was blessed with sons Edward Lee, Michael William, and daughter Theresa Marie (Lenehan).
Jim was known for his knowledge of electrical engines and small appliances. He owned Jim’s TV and repair shop in both Marceline, MO and Aurora, CO before retiring. He could diagnose and repair just about anything with a motor! Even after he turned ninety years old, Jim could still be found in his backyard repairing lawnmowers. He was also a man with a green thumb, and he could grow a garden like no other! Yearly he planted his garden and shared the bounty with his family. He was especially proud of the peach and pear trees he had planted from seed. Jim was also known for being able to make a deal. He often purchased collectibles and small appliances at garage sales and then repaired them for resale.
Jim was a member of St. Pius Catholic Church in Aurora, CO and was an avid believer in the truth of the Bible.
He is survived by his children: Michael, and his wife Velvet of Marceline, MO, and Theresa (Lenehan) and her husband Keith of Brighton, CO; Nine grandchildren, Hannah and Shawn (Cook), Claire, Hayden, Chloee, and Hadley Dorrell, Emily and Eli (Borden), Joseph, Anna, and Rebecca Lenehan, a great granddaughter Averie Cook, and step sisters Martha Lyle, Nancy Craig and sister-in-law Wanda Fields, all of Marceline. He was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa Lombardo of 69 years, his parents Alonzo Dorrell and Daisy (Strain) Fields, his son Edward Lee Dorrell, brother Russell Dorrell, step-father Orville Fields, step-brother Lawrence Fields, and step-sisters Shirley McCluskey and Sara Tomlinson.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at a later date in Marceline, Missouri.
