James J. Giaimo, Sr. (Jim), 84, of
Amsterdam, NY passed away peacefully at St. Mary's Hospital on December 18, 2020 surrounded by his family after a short illness. Jim was born August 20, 1936 in the Town of Florida, NY to the late Vincenzo and Giovanna (Tessiero, formerly Tesoriero) Giaimo. He was united in marriage to Angela Andolina on June 6, 1965. In his youth, Jim worked in his father's business at the International Meat Market making deliveries. Jim was a 1955 graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch High School. He furthered his education at Utica College of Syracuse University. Jim was a computer operator at the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory Inc. (KAPL Inc.) in Niskayuna, NY for 41 years, retiring in 2007. He loved his country and proudly served in the Army Reserves from 1957 to 1963. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a former parishioner of St. Michael's Church until its closure and then became a parishioner and communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Amsterdam. Jim truly enjoyed fine dining, entertainment, music, and traveling. He frequented many Italian restaurants in different countries, and saw famous entertainers and athletes, as well as having attended dozens of concerts. He also enjoyed politics. His favorite sport team was the New York Yankees. It gave him great pride to watch his children, grandchildren, and great grandchild participate in band recitals, halftime shows, and sporting events. Jim is survived by his wife Angela. He is also survived by two sons, Dr. Vincent J. Giaimo (Michele) and Dr. Joseph G. Giaimo. Grandchildren Gabriella E. Giaimo, Andrew J. Giaimo, Daniel V. Giaimo, and great grandson Richard C. Altieri, Jr. also survive. Many nieces and nephews also survive. Jim is predeceased by his parents, brothers, Leo Giaimo, John Giaimo, sisters, Katherine Battaglia, Rose Brezino, Marion DeLorenzo, Florence Cotugno, Vincenza Sardonia, and his son, James J. Amsterdam, NY 12010 at 9 a.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2021. The Mass will be officiated by Rev. O. Robert De Martinis and will be live streamed on Facebook by going to OLMC Amsterdam. Entombment will take place at the New Community Mausoleum-Mary Immaculate, Patroness of America at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery at 2501 Troy Road, Niskayuna, NY 12309. In accordance with COVID 19 restrictions, seating at funeral home and church is limited and masks and social distancing will be observed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jimmy G Memorial Scholarship Fund to be awarded annually to a graduating senior from Amsterdam High School c/o Citizens Bank, 17 S.
