It is with deep sorrow that we announce that on August 15, 2025, James Bayley Goodson (Jamie Goodson), 71, passed away peacefully at TMH Hospice, Tallahassee, FL surrounded by his family. Jamie was a loving husband, a wonderful father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend. Born on December 2, 1953, in Yellow Springs, OH to Carol Rose Goodson and John Goodson, Jamie was the third of four sons and grew up in Evansville, Indiana. He attended the University of Kentucky where he met his future wife, Teresa Sheeks Goodson. Jamie completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Cincinnati while Teresa finished law school. After marriage and graduation, they moved to Florida where they began their careers in banking and law. Jamie and Teresa have two sons, Adam Bayley Goodson (Jackie), Tallahassee, FL, and James Joshua Goodson (Meghan), Honolulu, HI. Jamie had a distinguished career in banking which began in Pensacola, FL in banking regulation with the State of Florida, and later included bank compliance with Saltmarsh, Cleaveland & Gunn, CPA, as well as serving as Vice President with many small community banks in Alabama and Florida. Jamie devoted his life to his family and community. Jamie found great enjoyment in traveling with his family and he especially enjoyed their last trip to Hawaii for the wedding of his son, Joshua. Jamie was a talented chef who delighted in creating wonderful meals that were shared with his family and friends. He also enjoyed being outdoors, camping, hiking, biking, kayaking, and served as a scout leader. Jamie was an avid reader and lifelong learner and enjoyed music of all genres. Jamie cherished many four-legged friends, including a host of sweet felines and one dear, though spoiled, dog. As all of his family and friends knew, Jamie was a lover of lions, his spirit animal. In his difficult battle with heart disease his lion's heart beat with the rhythm of courage. His survivors include his wife, two sons, and his beloved granddaughter, Penelope Lynn Goodson, to whom he was "Big Daddy." In addition, Jamie is survived by his three brothers: Mark Goodson (Joannie), Ellettsville, IN, Jonathon Goodson (Linda), Evansville, IN, and Spencer Goodson (Mary), Bloomington, IN. Survivors also include two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law, Charles Sheeks (Gina), Columbus, GA, Edith Sheeks, Tallahassee, FL, and Clark Sheeks, Murray, KY, a host of nieces and nephews, and his much-loved kitty, Miss Winn-Dixie, aka "Missy." Jamie's kindness and humor touched all who knew him. A memorial service will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church of Tallahassee on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 1:00pm. Family and friends are invited to a reception immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church or to Grace Mission. Breanna Green of Bevis Funeral Home (850-385-2193 or www.bevisfh.com) is assisting the family with their arrangements.
