James Grable Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McCulla Funeral Home on Nov. 15, 2025.
James William Grable, 91, of Morgantown, WV, passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2025, in Grafton, WV. Born on September 6, 1934, in Deemston, PA, he was a man with a wonderful sense of humor, quick wit, and full of warmth and wisdom. He left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him. James's memory is treasured by his devoted wife, Agnes (Skip), with whom he shared 60 years of marriage.
A man of many interests, James was never idle. An electrician by trade, he spent some time in the Air Force training to be a radio mechanic. James was able to do almost anything and was always doing home repair and special projects on his own house as well as his daughter's. He was a talented musician who could play many instruments including piano, guitar, mandolin, but he is mainly remembered for playing the accordion, which he did with great passion and joy. His talent has been passed on to his son (Jeff), daughter (Bette), and grandson (AJ) who are also incredible musicians in their own right. He was an avid reader, who spent many hours in retirement reading books. He embraced life's pleasures with enthusiasm and his inquisitive nature and intellect extended to technology, which he utilized by building websites whether for genealogy or his high school classmates.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his daughter, Bette Bond, of Indiana; son, Jeff Grable and daughter Susan (Lynn) Crayne both of Morgantown, WV. As well as grandchildren, Damien Crayne of Morgantown and AJ Griffin of Athens, Georgia and a cherished brother, John Grable of Waynesburg, PA. James is fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, and cousins, leaving behind a rich tapestry of family ties woven with love and memories. Preceding him in passing were his honorable parents, James Galen Grable and Mabel Estella Porter Grable, as well as his five sisters and four brothers, with whom he shared a cherished childhood, and his son-in-law, James Bond of Maine.
