James Edward Hartzog

Mr. James Edward Hartzog, better known as "Edward", age 78 of West Jefferson passed away Wednesday morning, April 26, 2023 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at 7:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Shepherd and Rev. Lisa Hartzog officiating.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, May 1, 2023 at 11:00am at Riverview Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00pm on Sunday, April 30, 2023; two hours prior to the funeral service.
He was born in Ashe County on Thursday, September 14, 1944 to the late Bower Kilby and Dessie Danford Younce Hartzog. He worked as a farmer most of his life. He was also a wood-worker and made many beautiful items for family and friends. Edward and Parmalee loved spending time at the beach, looking for shark's teeth and building sand castles; sitting at the river and chasing grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Mr. Hartzog is survived by: his wife, of 48 years of marriage, Parmalee Osborne Hartzog; two daughters, Sonya Hartzog Ellis (Travis), of West Jefferson and Carla Hartzog Williams (Matt), of West Jefferson; a sister, Toby Hartzog, of West Jefferson; three brothers, Everette Hartzog of Yadkinville, Jacob Hartzog (Brenda), of Pinnacle and Steve Hartzog (Lynn), of Statesville; six grandchildren, Laken Ellis, Tayla Ellis, Mylah Ellis, Treythan Ellis, Evan Williams and Callie Williams, all of West Jefferson; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Riverview Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, c/o Paul Miller.
