James D. Hasselbach, 87 of Oak Harbor, OH died Thursday, March 13, 2025 at Mercy- St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo, OH following a brief illness. He was born December 10, 1937 in Fremont, OH to the late Howard and Christine (Miller) Hasselbach. Jim was a 1955 graduate of Fremont Ross High School. On September 10, 1960 he married the former Shirley Kleinhans, and she survives.
Jim served in the United States Army Reserves during Peacetime at Ft. Knox. His unit would later be called up to report to Ft. Campbell during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Jim retired from Davis Besse in 1993 as a security officer. Other jobs he did included working at Brush Wellman, delivering milk for Meadow Gold Milk, was a 7up distributer for the Port Clinton and Catawba Island area, but was always a lifelong farmer.
He was a member of St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor where he served on Church Council and played on the Church Softball and Dartball Teams. He enjoyed farming, raising animals, playing sports, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Shirley of Oak Harbor; children: Jeff (Lisa) Hasselbach of Fremont, OH, Jay Hasselbach of Oak Harbor, OH, and Jill (Michael Weis) Fussell of Oregon, OH; grandchildren: Cassie (Steve) Piper, Jake (Kim) Hasselbach, Adam (Carrissa) Hasselbach, Katelyn (Keith) Bryden, Kyle (Jaclyn) Hasselbach, Andrea Hasselbach, Michael (Natalie) Hasselbach, Ryan Hasselbach, and step-grandchildren: Corey (Sheila) Fussell, Chris (Jill) Fussell, and Brittany Martin; great-grandchildren: Ryleigh, Billy, Jenna, Kimber, Addison, Madalyn, Deacon, Olivia, Hadley, Lindy, Logan, Alyssa, Brock, Dane, Demi, DJ, and one on the way; and sister Janet (Jim) Morley of Fremont, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law Nancy & Jim Gruver, sons-in-law Daniel Bowman and Garry Fussell and grandson-in-law Brannon Powers.
Visitation will be Monday from 5-8pm at Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Oak Harbor Chapel. Funeral Services will begin at 11am on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor where the family will receive friends beginning at 10am. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor. Memorial Contributions may be given to St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church.
