James Logan Hess Jr. passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on January 13, 2026. He was the loving husband of the late Carol (Stout) Hess who passed just 14 months prior after 62 years of marriage.
James was born in
Portage, Pennsylvania, to the late James Sr. and Viola Hess.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond, William, Samuel, Lawrence, and his sister, Sandra. James is survived by his children Debra (James) Lautenbach, Sherry Hess, Susan (Jay) Taylor, James Hess III (Theresa), Paula (Steve) Thacker and Miranda Hess. He is also survived by his brother Ronald, sister Patricia and grandchildren Jesse, Kyle, and Mary Lautenbach, Sherica Hess and Eric Williams, Jayson, Jamie, and Jeffrey Taylor and Cassandra Thacker. He also leaves behind 3 great grandchildren.
James loved fishing, especially the times he shared with his son Jim. He held a special love for quiet moments watching the deer at Peace Valley Park with Carol. Together, they shared many happy moments bidding on storage bins and sorting through their treasures. He had a fondness for scratch-off tickets and always enjoyed seeing if today might be the lucky day. A great memory of family and friends are the picnics held most summers at their home in Chalfont. After the loss of his beloved Carol, James moved to
North Wales, Pennsylvania, where he enjoyed sitting outside, watching the clouds drift by, and chatting with neighbors as they passed. James was a hardworking individual who devoted many years of his life to his work at Gasboy. He will be fondly remembered for his spicy sense of humor that always brought a smile and laugh to those around him.
There will be a memorial service for both James and Carol at a later date.
