Retired Command Sergeant Major, James W. Hoge Jr., a cherished father, decoratedVietnam Veteran, and unwavering friend to all he met, passed away peacefully on May 28,2025 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 81 years old.Born in Mckees Rocks, Pennsylvania. James grew up with a spirit of service and resiliencethat would come to define his life. He served his country with pride and honor in the Army,earning the respect of his comrades through his dedication, strength, and kindness. Hisstories of camaraderie, sacrifice, and duty were a source of wisdom and inspiration for allwho knew him.Outside of his military service, James also worked for Greenspace in the city ofElizabethtown. He was a devoted father who poured love, patience, and humor into everymoment with his family. He taught by example. Showing what it meant to stand tall throughadversity, loving deeply, and never losing hope; even in the face of cancer.Jame's warmth, wit, and fierce loyalty will be missed by all who were lucky enough to knowhim.He is survived by loving wife, Olga, of 60 years. 4 daughters: Marion Hughes,Sandra (Scott) Richards, Nicole (Jason) Kerr, Tanja (Keith) Merriman. 11 grandchildren and1 great grandchild, with several bonus grandchildren and great grandchildren. His legacy ofcourage, compassion, and service will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday. June 4, 2025 at 11 am at Manakee FuneralHome on Hwy 62 (Leitchfield Road) in Elizabethtown, Ky with Pastor Nathan Loweofficiating. Burial will be held at the Radcliff Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central withmilitary honors at 1230 pm.Visitation will be Tuesday June 3, 2025 at 3 pm to 7 pm or Wednesday 9 am to 11 am at theManakee Funeral Home in Elizabethtown, KY.In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Greenspace of Elizabethtownor any Veteran Organization.Rest easy, Dad-you fought the good fight, and we are so proud of you.Condolences may be expressed on-line at manakeefuneralhome.com
