Our beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away Thursday, December 22, 2022, at Bay Shores Nursing Center, age 94. James was born April 22, 1928 in Bay City to the late Lawrence and Hattie (Tomczak) Janiskee. He married Geraldine M. Deska on July 19, 1952, in St. Hedwig Church and she predeceased him on September 18, 2020. James was a veteran and served his country with the US Army during the Korean Conflict from October 3, 1950 to July 5, 1952. He retired in 1980 from General Motors-Grey Iron in Saginaw after more than 27 years of service and was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish-St. Mary's Church. James was also a member of the DAV, VFW and PLAV #162. He enjoyed spoiling his cat Tanner, woodworking in his younger years and taking trips to Mackinaw City to relax and enjoy the beautiful views of the Mackinac Bridge.
Left to cherish his memory is his son William "Bill" (Mary Kay) Janiskee, son-in-law Terry Peglow, two grandchildren, Kalvin Janiskee and Kayla (Andrew) Ledesma, and two great grandchildren, Dante and Lauren Ledesma. James was predeceased by his wife Geraldine, daughter Susan Peglow, granddaughter Amanda Peglow and brother-in-law Walt Deska.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Peace Parish-St. Mary's Church, 607 E. South Union Street, Bay City, MI 48706. Military Honors for James, under the auspices of the Bay County Veterans Honor Guard and US Army will follow immediately after Mass in the church foyer. Private entombment will be in St. Patrick Mausoleum. Family and friends will gather at the church on Tuesday, December 27th from 10:00 AM until the time of Mass.
