James “Jim” Brandt, age 74, of Frankenstein, passed away Friday, October 17, 2025, at University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics in Columbia.

Jim was born on November 14, 1950, in Frankenstein, a son to the late Francis and Marie (Kremer) Brandt.

He was a 1969 graduate of Fatima High School, where he participated in track. Jim took second place in district and qualified to go to state in his junior year.

On October 5, 1974, he was united in marriage to Sharon (Hoffman) Veltrop in Linn. Sharon survives at their residence.

Jim was a lifelong farmer who was also employed with Union Pacific Railroad and then he worked in the maintenance department for different factories in Jefferson City.

He was a member of Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Frankenstein and the National Rifle Association.

Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding horses, camping, participating in sporting events and being outdoors. When he spent time inside, he liked to shoot pool, watch a good old western show with John Wayne in it or listening to county music, especially Johnny Cash. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and his dog, Coco.

In addition to his wife of fifty-one years, Jim is survived by his two daughters, Melissa (Norbert) Dudenhoeffer of Jefferson City and Tina Bischoff of Taos; one stepson, Jeff (Tabitha) Veltrop of Jefferson City; thirteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Brandt of Hillsboro; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a stepson, Richard “Rick” Veltrop, Jr.; a step-grandson, Coty Veltrop; and four brothers, Clifford, Leo, Edward, and Donald Brandt.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Frankenstein.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church with Fr. Colin Franklin as the Celebrant. Interment will be in the Garden of Gethsemane Cemetery.
