James (Jim) Schmidt

James (Jim) Schmidt, 89, of Green Bay, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2025. He was surrounded by his family, went to be with the Lord, and into the loving arms of his wife, Judith. Born in Green Bay on July 20,1936, he is the son of the late Henry and Helen (Vieau) Schmidt. He grew up on the east side of Green Bay and graduated from Central Catholic High School class of 1954. His good friend Dan Moore introduced Jim to his future wife Judith (Judy). They had their first date on Valentines Day and he later married the former Judith Schlies on November 8, 1969. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and developed his love of hunting from his good friend, Joe Reitmeyer. Jim also enjoyed shooting trap at Brown County Sportsmen's Club with his good friends, including his friend and neighbor Ken Ellis.

He was a long time member of St Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. James began his career at Wisconsin Central Railroad, then transitioned to Badger Sheet Metal, and finally retired from Paper Converting Machine Company. After losing the love of his life, Judy, his strong friendships became family: Ken (Renee) Ellis, Pete (Sue) VanBeek, and Ray (Karen) Nelson.

He is survived by his three children, Gregory (Amy) Schmidt of Kansas, Victoria (Eric) Walcha of Arizona, Sarah Schmidt of California; and his only grandchild, Derika.

Preceded in death by his wife, Judy; brother, Henry "Hank" (Sandra) Schmidt.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Ken (Renee) Ellis, who were by his side until the very end. Without Ken and Renee, Jim would not have not been able to continue living in the home he built with his wife and fulfill his wish of living there until the very end. To Pete (Sue) VanBeek who were life long friends who he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing cribbage with. To Ray (Karen) Nelson whom he developed new family relationships with. They brought so much joy into his life and together they enjoyed many good times at the Out-O-Town Club.

Also, a special thank you to Mel Tenor from Home Instead for her gentle spirit. He and Mel enjoyed fishing, long drives, and playing pool. Mel was a ray of sunshine in Jim's life.
