James (Jimmy) Michael Jamail, 84, of LaGrange, Texas passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 21, 2024. He was born on July 7, 1940, in Houston, Texas to Philip and Effie Jamail.

Jimmy married his high school sweetheart, Dawn Wells, on July 9, 1960. In typical fashion, he forgot to notify the Selective Service System of his marriage and birth of his first child until 1963 when he received a conscription letter. He may have never served but he always supported those that did and proudly flew the American and Texas flags.

Jimmy was always self-employed beginning with leasing the produce departments in the J. C. Lucky Seven Super Markets. He opened his first donut shop in 1967. Over the years, he opened, owned, and operated many shops in the Houston and Katy areas. After selling his last donut shop, he managed the Houston-area Mary Lee shops for the Gilster Corporation.

Jimmy was quite a horseman. His love for horses started when he was a child with “Old Dan” who pulled his grandfather’s produce wagon. He bought his first horse in 1963. Over the years, he trained many horses and taught many kids to ride. He was also a proud “rodeo dad” and enjoyed participating in team penning and sorting competitions. He and his “Buckshot” were the founders of the mounted welcome committee at his beloved Colorado River Cowboy Church. Buck passed in September 2024 at the age of 30.

Jimmy had an infectious laugh that could raise the roof, while creating smiles and laughter with everyone he encountered. He never met a stranger. He was not a large man but was described as a man with great stature. As we reflect on his legacy, let us remember the kindness that he showed to others and the love that he shared with his family and friends. He was not just a husband, father, brother, and friend; he was a beacon in our lives, and he will be deeply missed

Jimmy will be missed by his wife Dawn and their children Jim Jamail of Sheridan; April and her husband Andy Bradley of Houston; grandchildren Darren & Jessica Jamail (son Jackston); Jarrod & Tiffany Jamail (children Carli, Jett, Evan); Haley & Terry Spring (children Aiden, Easton, Asher, Ella); Hannah & Rex Vasquez (daughter Lilly); Eric & Menley Lynn (daughter Laramie); and, Kate & Zach Sweet. He is also survived by five siblings, Shirley Shipley, Philip Jamail Jr, Ernest Jamail (wife Sharron), Sidney Jamail, and Cynthia Baker. And many nieces and nephews will miss their Uncle Jimmy. He is preceded in death by his son Michael Shayne Jamail and his parents Philip & Effie Jamail.

A celebration of life will be held at Colorado River Cowboy Church on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. (greetings to begin at 10:30 a.m.).

The family would like to thank the Hospice Brazos Valley for their care, kindness and compassion. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to Colorado River Cowboy Church (P.O. Box 458 Smithville, TX 78957) or Gardenia Janssen Animal Shelter (240 Svoboda Ln. La Grange, TX 78945).
