James Gasaway Jones was born on June 10, 1942, in Spartanburg, SC and peacefully departed this life on March 30, at the age of eighty-two. He was the husband of Detria Smith Jones and son of the late Etoy T. Jones and Dythulia Bryant Jones.
James graduated from Carver High School in Spindale, NC. He obtained two associate degrees from Spartanburg Technical College and Roberts School of Technology in New York. James was a retired Veteran who honorably served in the United States Army National Guard. He worked as a welder, pipefitter, and safety instructor for General ElectricGas Turbine in Greenville, SC, where he was respected for his work ethic and integrity. Outside of work, he enjoyed teaching welding classes at Spartanburg Community College. He was a member of New Bedford Baptist Church in Campobello, SC, where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School Director, and church choir member. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting, volunteering, working with youth organizations, attending sporting events and traveling.
He married the love of his life, Detria Smith Jones, and together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and faith. As a father, he was a constant source of support, encouragement, and unconditional love. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he guided them with patience and care.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley Jones Wright.
James leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and honor. His memory will be forever cherished by his wife; Detria Smith Jones; one son, Anthony (Constance) Jones; one daughter, LaTonya (Arnold) Jiggetts; three grandchildren, Anthony Copeland Jones, Avery Jiggetts, and Sydney Jiggetts; one sister, Clara Louise Jones (Leroy) Fowler; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and all who had the privilege to know him. He was a loving husband, a devoted father, a loyal friend, and a man of quiet strength and deep wisdom. We are grateful for the time we had with him and will carry his spirit with us always.
