James Monroe Kelly

James Monroe Kelly of Crystal Springs, Mississippi passed away on December 14, 2024. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather which gave him the determination and courage to fight Parkinson's disease that ultimately led him to be with his Lord and Savior. Jim is survived by his wife of 54 years Edith Margaret Holt Kelly, his son Scott Mathis Kelly (Angie), and daughter Amanda Kelly Sylvester (Ronald). Grandchildren include Holt Kelly, Blake Sylvester, Blaire Kelly, Brynn Kelly, Brett Sylvester, Kate Kelly, and a number of nieces and nephews. Surviving siblings include William H.C. Kelly, Jr, Richard Kelly, Rebecca Kelly Shanks, and Michael Kelly. Jim was preceded in death by his father, William H.C. Kelly, Sr. and mother Marguerite Haynes Kelly.
Jim was a graduate of Central High School Class of 1964. He was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany where he served as an Officer in the United States Army. After his honorable discharge in 1972 he completed his education with a degree in business from Mississippi College. Jim's business endeavors included real estate appraisal, bridge building as Kelly and Kelly Construction Inc, and Kelly and Kelly Lime.
Jim was an avid lover of the outdoors. His passions included archery (for which he won numerous awards including a national title), bow hunting, deer hunting, and his favorite; elk hunting. His love for cooking and the game of golf also occupied his time. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed attending their many sporting events. He even enjoyed playing a game of bridge and countless hours of John Wayne western movies. Jim will be remembered for his loyal friendships, hard work, and devotion to his family.
Funeral arrangements will be held at Stringer Funeral Home of Crystal Springs on Tuesday December 17, 2024. Visitation will begin at 11am with service to follow at Noon. In lieu of flowers, Jim's family requests donations be made to Baptist Hospice in Jackson, Mississippi.
