James Frederick Kidder, 89, passed away on November 20, 2024, at Homestead Assisted Living in Knoxville, Iowa. James's wish was to be cremated, and private family services will be held at a later date. James was born on May 26, 1935, in Youngstown, Illinois to H.W. and Lanora Kidder. He graduated from Roseville High School with the class of 1953. James and Virginia Riemann were united in marriage in Kingston, Iowa on June 18, 1954. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Kimberly and Kent. James and Virginia enjoyed 66 years of marriage. In 1957, James was drafted into the United States Army, where he served for two years. He sang with the Fort Ord Soldiers Choir. Soon after his service was completed, James enrolled in Iowa Wesleyan College. He graduated with a degree in music in 1962. He taught music for Knoxville Schools for 17 years. Following his teaching career, James worked for Pella Windows for 20 years, and then Wal-Mart for 10 years. James had a great passion for music. He was an organist at the First Presbyterian Church in Knoxville for over 50 years. One of the highlights of his life was being a quartet member of the Ambassadors. Outside of music, James loved to be in the presence of family and friends. He will be deeply missed by so many who had the pleasure of knowing him. James is survived by his children, Kimberly (Ron) Jahnke and Kent Kidder; grandchildren, Stacy (Patrick) Bacon and Ryan (Stacy) Jahnke; and his great grandchildren: Grady, Charlie, McKenzie (Chase), Alex, Madison, and Levi. James was preceded by his parents; his loving wife, Virginia; seven siblings, and an infant grandchild, Kristin Marie Kidder.
