James W. Loveland

West Irondequoit - James W. Loveland, age 99, passed away peacefully, on Monday, October 27, 2025. He is survived by two daughters, Linda (Emmett) Finagan and Holly Longton; son, William (Toni) Loveland; five grandchildren, Alexander (Felicia) Fulton, Ben and Katy Longton, Robert and Andrew Loveland; three great-grandchildren, Ella, Asher, and Lyla Fulton; niece, nephews, cousins and extended family members. He was predeceased by his wife, Carol Loveland; sister-in-law, Mildred Olson; brother-in-law, Robert Olson; son-in-law, Thomas Longton; and grandson, Christopher Fulton.
James was born and raised in Oneonta, NY and was the son of Benjamin and Gertrude (Miller) Loveland. He attended Oneonta schools. After high school, he served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in the Philippines. James graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Engineering. He met Carol at Cornell, and they were married on June 16, 1951, in Buffalo, NY. They remained a devoted couple for 68 years.
Upon retiring from a long career with Eastman Kodak Co., James found numerous places to volunteer, including American Red Cross, Literacy Volunteers, and Rochester City School District. He was a faithful member of Irondequoit United Church of Christ, served as a deacon, and enjoyed singing in the choir for many years.
His interests were varied, including woodcarving, antique tools, music, reading, antique cars, word puzzles, and jigsaws. Family and friends were important, as were summers spent at the family cottage in the Thousand Islands. He was happy to help whenever needed, and his engineer's mind came in handy time and time again. He will be greatly missed.

A private celebration of James' life will be held at a later date. Interment will be on Wellesley Island, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements are by Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home, Inc., Canandaigua. Condolences may be offered at www.johnsonkennedy.com.
