Canandaigua – Rev. Jane E. Watson, age 96, passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2025. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Susan Watson.
Jane was born in Barre, Vermont and was the youngest of 13 children. She was raised in a Christian home and attended church every Sunday. While in school, Jane played softball. She was Captain of the girls softball team and won every game. Jane became a Christian when she was a senior in high school. One day, she climbed a big mountain, made an altar out of stones and gave her heart to the Lord.
Jane attended Zion Bible Institute in Rhode Island, where she received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. Later, she headed to Maine for her third year of college. Jane attended Faith School of Theology and earned her counseling degree.
While Jane was living in White River Junction in Vermont, she married her husband Dean Watson in 1955. Two years later, they had their son Rick. When Dean passed away, she performed his funeral service.
In 1974, Jane attended a Camp Meeting and was encouraged by some friends to move to New York. She settled in Penfield and in 1975, she started working with the CBN Counseling Center, where she was a counselor and reader. After 11 years, the center closed and Jane and her associates opened Christian Community Outreach Center. Jane did in-person counseling and would travel and speak. She retired in 2006 at the age of 77.
Jane enjoyed sitting in her car down by the lake, hiking the mountains in New England and driving to Naples in the Mennonite areas. "I'm a country kid."
Stay close to the Lord. Take it seriously, be ready, moment by moment.
Her memorial service will be held Thursday, October 23, at 3pm, at Wilcox Lane Senior Apartments, 40 Wilcox Lane, Canandaigua. Memorial contributions may be made to Door to Hope Church, 3844 Co. Rd. 46, Canandaigua, NY 14424. Arrangements are by Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home, Inc., Canandaigua. Condolences may be offered at www.johnsonkennedy.com.
