James Ellis Mattocks
James Ellis Mattocks, 81, of Erie, Pa. Passed away peacefully on April 20, 2025 after a brief illness.
He was born in Meadville, Pa, on January 31, 1944, to the late Daniel Raymond Mattocks Sr. and Helen Dorothy (Waid) Mattocks Betts.
James was a career welder mostly working in shipyards, having spent time in Norfolk, VA, working on ships in the Navy Station. A man who loved to socialize, he enjoyed daily morning coffee with his buddies, Paul Demarco and "Red" Borland. James had many accomplishments in life, especially a remarkable 47 years in AA. James enjoyed bowling, playing guitar, going to bingo, woodworking, traveling, (a shared passion with his youngest), and finding any excuse to be outside. He enjoyed watching old westerns, and the "Price is Right" with oldest daughter, as well as sharing as much wisdom and life stories he could with them.
James is survived by his two daughters, Makenzie (Colin) and Makayla Mattocks, both of Erie, PA; three grandchildren, Morganna Gregory, Tatum Mattocks, and Gabriel Gregory; one brother, Kenneth Mattocks (Betty) of Conneaut Lake, PA, and sister, Margaret Johnson of Meadville, PA. He is further survived by many other loved ones.
James was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Daniel Raymond Mattocks, Jr., Arthur Mattocks, and Charles Mattocks.; a brother-in-law, Ted Johnston; two sisters-in-law, Judith Mattocks and Alice Mattocks; a son-in-law Jonathan Tan, and one of his best friends of over 60 years, Ron Ericsson.
