James Leslie Mayoh (Jamie), was born January 26, 1971, and passed away at his home in Draper, UT October 2, 2022, with his beloved wife, daughters and family by his side. He lived his 51 years to their fullest as a determined, strong man.
He was born in Heber City, UT to Leslie J and Claudia Mayoh. Jamie was born with a rare immune deficiency that almost cost him his life several times, even as an infant. But, from day 1 he fought and was determined to never let his illness slow him down.
He grew up in Heber City, back when it was a small town. He was lucky enough to have grandparents who lived just around the corner and talked fondly of spending a lot of time with them.
He had a great love for sports, particularly team sports. Football and baseball were his passion. He became a Chicago Cubs fan as a young boy. He would often miss school due to one infection or another and had WGN on TV, so watching the Cubs play baseball became a great way to pass the time. He became a Dallas Cowboys fan from a young age, America's Team was his team.
His other great love in life was his dogs. From boyhood to now, he nearly always had a dog. They were his best friends and he loved them more than anything. Sometimes, more than his wife or kids. Tippy, Emmitt, Aikman, Sadie, Wrigley and Ivy all played special roles and kept him going. They gave him someone to talk to and provided the unconditional love he needed.
Jamie graduated from Wasatch High School where he played football, ran track, and barely passed his classes. Not because he struggled, he was actually really smart. He just didn't find doing homework to be a top priority. Although that is something he would have never admitted to his own girls when they were going through high school. As a young boy, he could do math with ease and answer problems in his head. But he said it wasn't cool to be smart, and he wanted to fit in. Often, there were times when he would hold back the answers that came easy to him, just because he didn't want to be looked at as different.
He learned to make use of his natural ability and went on to graduate with a bachelor's degree in computer engineering and then a master's degree in business administration, both from the University of Utah. He was employed as a Program Manager for L3Harris Technologies at the time of his death.
He married his best friend, Kristine, August 19, 1994. Jamie and Kristine worked as a team in everything they did. They were blessed with two daughters, Baylee and Taylor. As a family, they made as many memories as they could. Camping, 4-wheeling, boating, traveling or just sitting at home playing a game or watching a movie. Jamie referred to his girls (all 3 of them) as his rocks and what got him through so many tough days. Truth be told, he was the one that gave them their strength.
After a lifelong struggle with illness, which he hid, and hid well from most people, his lungs began to fail him. After fighting to keep up for years, he faced the fact that he was running out of options. He endured procedures, treatments, and time away from his girls to keep going for them just as long as he possibly could. A little more than a year ago, he was accepted for, and given a double lung transplant. Through the gift of organ donation, and the support of doctors and nurses he was given a second chance at life. He was able to do activities, hike, swim, walk and even race short distances with his girls. They got to see and experience life with him that they hadn't seen since they were just little. Unfortunately, in the end his body rejected the lungs. But he was fortunate to be given an extra year, and a good year that we never thought he would have.
To the organ donor and their family, we are forever grateful. To all the doctors and nurses who have helped him throughout his life, we thank you. And to the transplant team at the Norton Thoracic Institute at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix, there are no words. You became family. You fought with us, and you gave us the most precious gift we could have ever been given - the extra time for Jamie to enjoy life again and for us to have him just a little longer.
Jamie lived to have a good time. He was always on the go and knew that each day was a gift. He had a quick, witty sense of humor. You never knew what was going to come out of his mouth. We called his one liners and random thoughts "Jamie-isms". These would make you laugh out loud, pause and take a double take, or really wonder, "how does his mind even work to think of that?"
He was a friend to so many people and an inspiration to all who got to know him. The void he leaves is massive. But he has also given us the gift of seeing how life should be lived.
Jamie is survived by his wife, Kristine, his daughters, Baylee Danielle and Taylor Brooke, his mother, Claudia, his sister Tabatha (Ronnie), his brother John (Heather), nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father, Leslie, and brother Tim.
