James McLean passed away on August 16,2024 at the age of 85. He was born in Luling to Homer and Lillie McLean on August 26, 1938
He went to high school in Columbus, Texas.
He married Dixie McLean on May 28,1962 in San Marcos, Texas
James graduated from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University) with a bachelors degree in education. Later he went on to get his masters in education from Our Lady of the Lake in San Antonio. He worked as a biology and math teacher and basketball coach until he became the principal of LaVernia School. He finished out his Texas career in Rivera and Colorado City, Texas. When he retired from the Texas school system he went to Alaska and was the principal in Nenana for 2 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents Homer and Lillie, brothers Homer and Raymond, and sister Margorie.
He is survived by his wife Dixie, daughter Donna Chance and her husband Charles Chance, son Kevin Mclean, grandchildren Christopher Eells and his significant other Athena Rose, Heather Kirk and her husband Raymond, Kaitlin Mclean and her fiancé Russell Barhight, Christian Mclean, and Megan and great grandchildren Micheal Cano, Aaiden McLean, and Amity and Kayleigh Barhight.
A memorial service will be held at a later date and the family will post the date on social media.
The family wants to thank the doctors, nurses, staff, and hospice care that he received at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital in San Marcos, Texas.
