James Mercer Obituary
Funeral is 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 5, 2023 at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Joe Hoag will officiate. Pallbearers include Chris Mercer, Paul Mercer, Brent Mercer, Joshua Mercer, John Paul Ary, and Cory Cochran.
Jim was born January 20, 1934 to Alexander Hamilton and Cora Mae (Adams) Mercer in Roff, Oklahoma. He was united in marriage September 12, 1953 to Iva Edith Mahurin in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Jim was retired from Sales in the Automotive Industry. He proudly served our country in the United States Army. Jim was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many who will dearly miss him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander and Cora Mercer.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 69 years, Edith Mercer of Decatur; his sons, James Mercer of Decatur, Jerry Mercer and wife Connie of Decatur, and Jeff Mercer and wife Sonia of Midwest City, Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren, and 40 great-grandchildren; numerous extended family members and a host of friends.
