James "Ray" Napper, 75, of Hernando, MS, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on April 10, 1950, in Memphis, TN, Ray was a kind soul who lived his life with a generous heart and a joyful spirit. Known for his goofiness, sweet nature, and unwavering care for others, Ray was deeply loved by all who knew him. He had a selfless way of showing up for his family and friends, always ready with a warm smile, a silly joke or a helping hand.
Ray had a deep love for music and dancing, never missing a chance to move to the rhythm and bring a smile to those around him. He found joy in singing, playing the piano and guitar, his melodies echoing with love, laughter and the life he lived so fully. He also had a deep love for classic cars, appreciating their timeless beauty and the character each one held, especially his '56 Chevy.
He was the proud owner of Hernando Floor Coverings, a business he co-owned with his son Jeff. His work ethic, integrity, and passion for serving the community were evident in everything he did.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Deborah Goforth Napper, his three children, Amy Smith (Jeff), Tiffany Birdsong (Jason), Jeff Napper (Brandyn): his ten cherished grandchildren: Erica Napper, Erin Gordon (Bradley), Lindsey Mangum (Robert), Tori Perez (Brandon), Carly Morgan (Luke),Caleb Napper (Chassidy), Kathryn Napper, Ally Jones, Kelsey Napper, Keiley Napper; and twelve beloved great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind three sisters, two brothers and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, JB Napper and Sadie Mae Napper; his sister Ann Roberts and his brother, Bobby Napper.
