A Louisville resident, Mr. James Howard Newton, age 93, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at Traditions at Beaumont in Louisville. He was born December 13, 1931 in Louisville to the late William Permon and Mary Verlin Cecil Newton. Jim was a retired accounting manager for CSX Transportation in Jacksonville, Florida and was a former director of Mandarin Senior Center in Florida. He was a United States Army Veteran and was a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church. Jim was an avid card player and enjoyed playing bingo. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Jane Wheatley Newton, his brother, William Paul Newton and his sister, Mary LaVerne Thompson. He is survived by 2 daughters, Dana Marie (Jeffrey) Backus of Louisville, Susan Rene (Paul) Dailey of Albany, KY., 2 sons, Kevin Gerard (Andrea) Newton of West Bend, WI., John Patrick (Mercy) Newton of Evansville, IN., his grandchildren, Erin Settles, Beth Hewett, Nick Willard, Dawson Dailey and his great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Seanna and Cameron Settles. In honoring Mr. Newton's wishes, cremation was chosen. A Memorial Mass will be 10:00 am Friday, April 11, 2025 at St. Gregory The Great Catholic Church. Fr. Kien Nguyen, celebrant. Inurnment will be in St. Joseph Church Cemetery. Memorial visitation will be 5:00-8:00 pm Thursday April 10, 2025 at Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home. A prayer service will be Thursday at 7:00 pm. The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
