James Blaine Oaks "Jim - JB", age 81 of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 10, 2025. Jim was born on September 26, 1943, to Lonnie and Mary Oaks. In April of 1976, Jim married the love of his life, Locella Tipton, and after 49 years of a beautiful life together, she survives.

Jim enjoyed 44 years working for Mead, Domtar, and Weyerhaeuser. Jim served on the Appalachian Credit Union board of directors for 40 plus years. Jim also served as a board member for the Kingsport Assembly of God and the North Kingsport Church of God. Jim loved his family, and he was devoted to serving his Lord and Savior.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lonie "Junior" Oaks, and Ray "Buster" Oaks; and one infant sister, Patsy Ruth Oaks. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Locella Oaks; two brothers, Harold Oaks and wife, Pat, and Doug Oaks and wife, Kathy; sister, Nancy Oaks; brothers-in-law, Hagan Tipton and wife, Laura, David Spears and wife, Judy, Ricky Spears and wife, Dollie, Terry Spears and wife, Brenda, and Jerry Spears; sisters-in-law, Mary Ruth Cleek, Nancy Falin, and Alice Click; special niece, Sarah Beth Ervin and husband, Michael; special nephew, Kenny Spears and wife, Amy; great nieces, who called him "Poppy", Zolianne Ervin, Marley and Paisley Spears; along with several other nieces, nephews, and family members.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at Carter-Trent Funeral Home Kingsport from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Noah Bradley officiating. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at Oak Hill Memorial Park at 11:00 am. Jim's family and friends will be serving as pallbearers. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:50 am. To view a memorial video please click here.
