James Ray Perdue, age 90, of Matoaca, Virginia, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2025. Born on July 20, 1935, in Matoaca, James Ray lived a life marked by love, service, and unwavering faith.

James Ray was preceded in death by his loving wife Charlene Kinker Perdue and his longtime sweetheart Carolyn Williams; parents Walter Raleigh Perdue and Josie Kersey Perdue; Sisters: Barbara Babcock, Evelyn Perdue and Jean Crigger; and beloved grandson Matthew Thomas Harris.

Those left to cherish his memory include children: Sharon Buell (Steve), Robin Gittman (Jay) and Pam Sharp. Grandchildren: Lauren Newlin, Laura Thigpen, Daniel Sharp, Tim Buell, Brandi Gunn and their spouses and 9 great grandchildren. Siblings Jerry Perdue, Richard (Dickie) Perdue and several nieces and nephews, all of whom were profoundly impacted by his love, guidance, and steadfast presence.

In service to his country, James Ray proudly served in the United States Army. His military service remained a source of pride throughout his life. He went on to build a meaningful career as a machinist at Allied Chemical and was known for his dedication, integrity, and strong work ethic. His colleagues and those he served with respected him deeply for his honesty and commitment.

Outside of work, James Ray found great joy on the golf course and in faithful service to his church family at Matoaca United Methodist Church. His involvement went far beyond attendance: he served with devotion as a head deacon, stew master and Sunday school teacher, giving generously of his time, wisdom, and heart.

Above all else, James Ray will be remembered for his legacy of honesty, his unwavering commitment to family, and his deep and abiding faith in the Lord. His life was a reflection of grace, humility, and trust in God’s promises. He lived his faith not only in word, but in action: loving others selflessly, forgiving freely, and standing firm in truth. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy lives on in the hearts of those he loved and in the assurance that he now rests in eternal peace with the Lord.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Matoaca United Methodist Church, 6301 River Rd, S Chesterfield, VA 23803.
