James Leonard Porte

James Leonard Porte, age 84, of Fort Mill, SC passed away on Tuesday, November 12,2024 in Indian Land, SC.Born on in New Bedford, MA, he was the son of the late John W. Porte and Dorothy Crocker Porte. Jim was a graduate of the University of MA Dartmouth where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in textile engineering. He was employed at the Kendall / Colgate Palmolive Company and Ocean Spray Cranberries.In his spare time his many interests included watching New England sports teams, college sports teams especially the University of Alabama and the University of South Carolina. He was an avid runner who also enjoyed a competitive round of golf, swimming and boating. Photography, gardening, playing cards and traveling were of great interest. Jim and Sue enjoyed their trips to Europe. He spent many hours volunteering at Hope in Lancaster, SC. Most importantly he loved spending time with his family. Jim is survived by his wife of 60 years, Suzanne Caron Porte; his children, Michelle Porte Travis (Andrew), Andrew James Porte; siblings, Audrey Porte Rose, Glenys Porte Dwyer, his grandchildren, Zachary Travis, Matthew Travis, Bryan Travis and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Carl W. Porte. A memorial mass will be held at 11:30AM on Friday, February 7, 2025 at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Fort Mill, SC.
