Funeral Services for Mr. James Earl Porter, age 96 of Lineville, will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at Barfield Baptist Church with Rev. David Holcombe officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
Mr. Porter passed away on Monday, October 13, 2025 at his home. He was born at Indian Mound, Tennessee on March 10, 1929, joined the Air Force at 17 years old and served three years. During that time, he met and eventually married Ruby East, and together had four children together. During his lifetime, he worked at Kilby Steel, raised hogs, built cabinets, and was a rural Mail Carrier for many years. Mr. Porter loved to travel and go camping both in the Smokies and out West. He also enjoyed working in the garden with his wife and family. His best advice was to save a little bit of every dollar you make. He was a member and deacon of McCollum Baptist Church.
Mr. Porter is survived by four children: Carolyn Lee of Pelham, Janie Bean (Gary), Rev. David Porter, and Dan Porter (Lisa), all of Lineville; five grandchildren: Jason Porter (Jackie), Jerry Porter (Teri), Lisa Griffin, Anna Morrison (Daniel), and Jacob Porter (Misty), several great-grandchildren and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents: William Waverly Porter and Daisy Lee Gilbert Porter; his wife of 70 years, Ruby East Porter; and two brothers, George and Sam Porter.
Jason Porter, Jerry Porter, Jacob Porter, Daniel Morrison, Carter Morrison, James Griffin, and Nelson Smith will serve as pallbearers.
His visitation will take place on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at Barfield Baptist Church beginning at 1:00 P.M. until service time at 2:00 P.M.
The family would like to say a special thanks to Dawn Oswalt and Compassus Hospice Care for their care and compassion for our dad.
