James “Randy” Porter, 56, of Morehead City, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at ECU Health Medical Center.
A memorial service to honor Randy’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, February 28 at First Methodist Church in Morehead City. The family will receive friends following the service.
Randy was born on June 6, 1969, in Durham, North Carolina, to the late James R. Porter Sr. and Doris Porter. He spent most of his life in New Bern where he built lasting friendships. Having lived there since 1972, he was well known in the community for his strong work ethic and kind heart. For many years, he worked as a skilled handyman and carpenter. Randy had a true gift for working with his hands and took great pride in every project he completed. His customers admired not only his craftmanship but also his honesty and willingness to lend a helping hand whenever it was needed.
About 15 years ago, Randy made his home in Morehead City, where he could better assist his mother. He loved spending time with his nephew, fishing, and cooking on the grill. Randy will be remembered for being a hardworking, dependable man who genuinely cared for others. To know Randy was to love him and he will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his mother, Doris Wade (Earle) of Morehead City, N.C.; sister, Michelle Japp (Brian) of Greensboro, N.C.; brother, Todd Porter (Angela) of New Bern, N.C.; nieces and nephews, Jr., Emma, Kyle, and Mary-Lindsay.
James was preceded in death by his father, James R. Porter Sr.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Methodist MHC Project, 900 Arendell Street, Morehead City, N.C. 28557.
