Mr. James Norfleet Poteat Sr., 91, of Spartanburg, South Carolina, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 26, 2024. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He was married to the late Shirley Hodge Poteat for 64 years until her death in 2017. James was a lifetime member of Fairview Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and taught the Boy's Sunday School class for many years. Left to cherish his memory are daughters, Dr. Amy Thornton (Danny), and Angie Spears (Jamie); son, James N, Poteat (Tammy); granddaughter, Ashley Cooper (Clint); grandson, James Poteat; great granddaughter, Sadie Poteat, great grandson, Remington Cooper, and new great granddaughter, Cora, on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by eight sisters, and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Fairview Baptist Church on Bryant Road, with Rev. Ty Childers and Rev. Mike Davis officiating.

The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service on Saturday, from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM.
