James "Jim" Power, passed away on May 9, 2025, in Canton, GA. Born on September 2, 1939, in Alexander City, AL, and raised in Columbus, GA, Jim made an indelible mark on the world through his kindness, dedication, and warmth.
A Columbus High School graduate, he excelled both academically and athletically. He honed his talents further at South Georgia College, where he made a name for himself as an exceptional baseball pitcher under Coach Bobby Bowden's tutelage. He then attended and graduated from the University of Georgia with his Bachelor of Business Administration degree. Jim retired from Georgia Power Company in September of 1994 after 33 years of distinguished service, during which he fulfilled roles from lineman to Account Executive with unwavering commitment and pride.
He maintained an immaculate garden and yard, often likened to something out of Better Homes and Garden. Jim's interests extended beyond the tranquility of his yard; he was a passionate traveler and camper. The North Georgia Mountains held a special place in his heart, evidenced by his tenure as HOA President at Choestoe Falls RV Park in Blairsville. Ever the sports enthusiast, Jim remained a steadfast Georgia Bulldogs fan and enjoyed golfing. His role as the undisputed "Grill Master" was cherished by all who had the pleasure of tasting his culinary delights. He also enjoyed the intricate world of model trains.
Above all, Jim's heart was with his family and friends, with whom he loved to spend time creating lasting memories. He was affectionately known as PaPoo to his grandchildren whom he adored immensely. His unofficial role as the local amateur weatherman kept everyone up to date with his forecast predictions.
James "Jim" Power lived a life marked by dedication, love, and joy, leaving behind a legacy of cherished memories that will continue to flourish in the hearts of those who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Kaye Fant Power; parents, Gus and Thelma Power; and brother, Earl Power.
Jim is survived by his daughters, Terri Hill and Laine Riley (Mike); grandchildren, Erica Benvenuto (Cameron), Grant Hill (Samantha), Jamie Hill and Mason Riley; sister-in-law, Beverly Power; and nieces, Margie Young and Tricia Melendez.
A celebration of Jim's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at the Sosebee Memorial Chapel. Jim would want everyone to be comfortable, please wear casual attire, he would prefer UGA apparel or red and black. The service will be livestreamed, and a link will be provided on his obituary page at www.sosebeefuneralhome.com
