James Lloyd Powers, a cherished husband, father, son, brother, brother-in-law, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2024, at the age of 57. He was born on January 11, 1967, in Lansing, Michigan, to Joseph and Edna Powers, James was a resident of Dimondale, Lansing, and Grand Ledge.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and joy in his wife of 31 years, Colleen; his daughter, Morgan (Kyle Carpenter); his son, Connor; his parents, Joseph and Edna Powers, his sister, Kristine and brother-in-law, Jack Wischmeyer. He is predeceased by his father-in-law and mother-in-law Paul and Rosemary Wischmeyer.
For many years, James was a valued employee at Meijer in DeWitt, where he was known for his friendly demeanor and his willingness to lend a helping hand to both customers and colleagues alike. His work ethic and positive attitude were an inspiration to all who worked alongside him, and his absence will be deeply felt.
Beyond his professional life, James was an ardent supporter of the San Francisco 49ers, his love for the team rivaled only by his love for his family. He could often be found cheering on his team during football season, decked out in his favorite 49ers gear. James's enthusiasm for the game was infectious, and many fond family memories were made during those spirited game days.
In addition to football, James had a passion for collecting sports memorabilia, a hobby that allowed him to connect with fellow enthusiasts and create a tangible record of the sports history he so adored.
James's greatest joy, however, was spending time with his family. Whether it was taking naps with or spoiling his grand pup Molly, enjoying a movie night with his loved ones, or simply sharing a meal, these moments were the ones he cherished most. He was also an avid lake lover, many family vacations were spent traveling up north where he could also be found feeding the seagulls. His presence was a comforting and loving constant in the lives of those he held dear.
As per James's wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 17th please contact Colleen Powers at [email protected] for more information. The family has entrusted arrangements to Mills Funeral Home, Peters & Murray Chapel, Grand Ledge. For online condolences please visit www.millsfuneral.com.

Jimmy and I grew up together, from preschool through graduation we were best friends. I am saddened by his passing and my prayers are with Colleen, his children, and parents. May his memory be a blessing and may he live in everlasting glory.
