James Vallierre Ramer age 84, of "Oak Valley" Deptford Twp., NJ passed away at home on Friday, April 18, 2025. Born in Paulsboro, NJ to the late Vallierre Ramer and Alice (nee Roddy), he graduated from Paulsboro High School Class of 1959. Jim married Constance Elizabeth Myers on December 29, 1962. He served in the US Army at the Yuma Proving Grounds in Arizona. Jim worked at DuPont where he was a lab technician and was a boiler operator at Texaco. He was a Stewardship Deacon and Elder at Southwood Baptist Church and earned his associates degree from Gloucester County College in 2006. Jim was very committed to his family, helping with house projects and spending as much time as possible with his grandchildren, especially playing games of Monopoly and checkers. "Poppy" was a fixture at sporting events, concerts, school programs, plays and anything else that involved his grandchildren. Jim was also an avid reader and a history buff who rarely missed an episode of Jeopardy. He loved to tell stories of his childhood and the adventures he had with his siblings in Bridgeport, NJ. Above all, Jim was an extremely devoted husband who was always at Connie's side.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Connie Ramer; two children, Crystal Hanrahan & her husband, Dave, and Todd Ramer & his wife, Holly; eight grandchildren, Shaunessy Sneller & her husband, Nathan, David Hanrahan & his wife, Lara, Nate Hanrahan & his wife, Ashlyn, Ian Hanrahan & his fiancée, Kristin, Michael Hanrahan, Reid Ramer, Jacob Ramer, & Luke Ramer; great grandchildren, Hannah Sneller, Elliot Hanrahan, Bonnie Noel Hanrahan, Isla Clare Hanrahan; and two great grandchildren arriving this summer. Jim was also survived by his siblings, Leigh Ramer, Henry Ramer & his wife, Diane, and Mary Blair & her husband, Dennis.
Friends and family may visit from 10 am to 11 am on Wednesday, April 23rd at Crossbridge Community Church (formerly Southwood Baptist Church), 11 Griscom Lane, West Deptford, NJ 08096 where a funeral service will be held at 11 am. Burial will follow in Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro, NJ. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Crossbridge Community Church at the address above.
