James (Jim) Raymond Reed III, born on May 12, 1953 in El Campo, TX, passed away on June 19, 2025, after a prolonged illness. He was the beloved son of the late James and Dolores Reed.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 20 years, Jessamy Reed.
Jims love of hunting and outdoorsmanship started early, as evidenced by his State Junior Skeet Shooting championship. Fishing, hunting, and scuba diving were widely pursued from Jim's earliest years and onwards. After graduating from El Campo High School, Jim attended Texas A&M Kingsville. There he had many adventures and formed lifelong friendships with fellow members of Sigma Chi. Jim went on to start Reed Setup Company and later worked for Don Davis Motors, but his greatest career was still to come. Jim fulfilled many of his own lifelong dreams when he earned his Captain's license, moved to Port O'Connor, and opened the 10th Street Lodge with his wife, Jessamy. These happy years were full of fishing, good friends, and entertaining every guest in the grandest of style.
Jim is survived by two daughters, Candice Slater and Jaqueline Reed; one grandson Jonathan Slater; and two sisters Mary Ann Reed Kainer and Elizabeth Reed.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at First Presbyterian Church of El Campo. A reception will be held afterwards at Mikeska's Bar-B-Q.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to CCA where Jim was a lifelong supporter, or to the First Presbyterian Church of El Campo, which the family wishes to thank for their assistance during this time.
